so many great places to visit

Our location, in the heart of Pickering's conservation area has been instrumental in helping customers choose ’17’ as the place to stay. Whether you are visiting the North Yorkshire Moors Railway - just a short stroll down the hill, Heartbeat Country on the North Yorkshire Moors or the coast at Whitby or Scarborough, Pickering is a perfect base. Equally we are a 20 minute drive from the Yorkshire Wolds - the inspiration for David Hockney, just 25 minutes from Castle Howard and 40 minutes from York. Bempton Cliffs, Flamborough Head, Bridlington and Filey are only a little further and you can be at The Deep in Hull in less than an hour.

Castle Howard

Pickering is an ideal centre for savouring all of North Yorkshire’s delights –  a gentle stroll or a serious hike – Dalby Forest, the North Yorkshire Moor National Park or the Coast.  Historic Houses such as Castle Howard, historic sites such as the abbeys at Rievaulx and Byland, the  North Yorkshire Moors Railway, the coastal towns of Whitby, Filey or Scarborough.  The city of York or a variety of museums such as Eden Camp or activities such as GoApe or Flamingoland, and much more. We are only a 20 minute drive from the Yorkshire Wolds, the inspiration for the David Hockney exhibition at the Royal Academy, and a further 30 minutes will take you to Hull.
The Black Swan in Pickering has been re-opened and looks like being a good addition to the town. Phil and Gill brew their own beer and do some excellent cider as well. Willowgate Bistro in Pickering is new and getting rave reviews. It is small with a short menu but always good, not fine dining but a great addition to the town. We enjoy Spice4U in Pickering but it can be very busy and noisy. The Sun in Pickering is an excellent pub for a good ale and a slice of Pickering company. They also do live music in their garden on a regular basis. The Bay Horse in Pickering is in new hands and the pub/restaurant food is a good addition to the food offer in town.
