Green Stuff

Since opening 17 we have been aware of improving our foot print, but not reducing the service offered.  We started wtih some low energy lamps, some double glazing and recycled.  However in 2008 we decided to take the bull by the horns and make a concerted effort. This has resulted in us being awarded a Silver level rating by the Green Tourism Business Scheme.

For us to improve further we need your assistance - 

We have extended the use of low energy lamps, increased insulation in the lofts, fitted double glazing where possible and put secondary double glazing in other rooms.  All our cleaning and domestic products are now eco friendly. Wherever possible we use local suppliers for all produce,vegetables, muesli, bacon, sausages, eggs and  we make our own bread and cakes ,most of the time, and marmalade.  We also filter our own water.  We have increased our recycling to include cardboard, paper, plastic, ink cartridges and glass.  We recycle some garden waste on site but send some with the rest of our recycling.  

The timers on the boilers are altered to suit the weather conditions and the thermostats on the radiators kept low.  We ask guests to assist us by closing windows, turning down thermostats, turning electrical appliances off when not in use including lights and reusing towels where possible.

The garden is designed to be wildlife friendly and further work through the summer will add to this.

A drying room is avaliable for both walkers and cyclists and we provide storage and wash off facilities for bikes.We are proud that Pickering has Walkers are Welcome status and were major sponsors of the first Pickering Walking Festival this year.

Pickering is also a FairTrade Towm and we do carry a range of fairtrade products
