The market towns of Pickering, Malton, Helmsley all have a selection of independent specialist outlets, farmers and weekly markets, craft shops and galleries. Many of the areas traditional villages also have there own bake house, butcher and organic vegetable outlet, indeed it is difficult to drive more than a few miles without the signs of a roadside entrepreneur catching your eye. Whitby and Scarborough cater for the needs of the modern tourist whilst still offering fresh fish on a daily basis. York provides all the High Street names, a designer outlet and wide selection of high quality specialist shops.
