Yeah!! The new top level cycling race the Tour de Yorkshire is coming to Pickering and Ryedale on May 1st and 2nd 2015. On Friday 1st some of the world’s best riders will sweep along the A170 with sprint points avaiaable in the town, The stage starts in Bridlington and goes through Dalby Forest before hitting Pickering then on through the North York Moors to Whitby with a finish in Scarborough. On the 2nd the race will start in Selby run across the Wolds to Beverly then sweep back into Ryedale through Norton and out on the south side of the A64 to a finish in York. We do have some availability but don’t think it will last long. We and many others have lobbied long anf hard for this and are delighted to be able to welcome this fantastic event which builds on the success of Le Grand Depart of le TourdeFrance last year.
We continue to get great feedback in our guestbook and on review sites-Trip Advisor, Booking.com and Laterooms. Good to see that returners believe we are maintaining standards 10 years on
Yes it is early November and the run up to Christmas is in full swing. Santa’s Specials on the NYMR , festive decorations to see at Castle Howard, Burton Agnes, Nunnington Hall and Sledmere House, craft and christmas fairs every weekend. Christmas Lights switch on in Pickering 0n 29th November and in Thornton Le Dale a week later.
Also lots going on in York and on the coast including Whitby Christmas Market
Remember seasonal madness rates apply during most of November to Easter. Also 3 for 2 and special returners deals
The Lost Pink Sheep campaign is now over and seems to have generated some good publicity for the area -including a piece on BBC Countryfile. We saw many people photograph Purl in our window but only one young man realised that we might also be the place with the knitted egg cosy sheep (Mint and Sauce) and came for a picture holding them. The winner of our prize has been in touch and will be coming to stay next Spring. Well done all at North York sMoors National Parks.
It has been a busy summer and we have had lots of returners which is always good to see. this included our regular visitors from Japan, Canada, and Australia.
19 Burgate has takem off and we have had several repeat visits already-would suggest you get in early for next year as key dates are going fast.
Pat and I are still contemplating a different future but really do love the house and running it as a B and B-could be we just have more time off especially during the winter months.
I am running the Yorkshire marathon again on 12th October raising funds for MacMillan Cancer support-there is a Just Giving page on FB if you want to support.
We have a room available for war weekend this year-minimum 4 night stay at a rate of £460 for 2 people 2 nights B and B. Just ring
So finally Le Grand Depart is only 1 week away-this time next week it will all be over. NO!!! This time next week it will just be starting!!! The actual weekend will be fun and fantastically supported but the key is the legacy-how we in Yorkshire build on the amazing opportunity this gives us. Welcome to Yorkshire and the Councils will set things up-but no good if the people walk away-we MUSN’T let this happen. We will be doing our utmost to support every initiative and spin off-hope everyone else gets on board. Handled properly the impact of Le Grand Depart will bring millions of visitors and billions of pounds to the region-well done to the team at Welcome to Yorkshire and now it is up to everyone in Tourism Yorkshire to perform this weekend and for many years to come
Over 200 Pink (yes Pink) sheep have got lost all over North Yorkshire-if you can spot 3 of them you could win a fab prize by letting www.NorthYorkMoors.org.uk/PinkSheep know. great idea to support the Tour De France Grand Depart.
Yes the first 2 days of the Tour de France are in Yorkshire this year 5th and 6th July. Unfortunately the world’s biggest annual sporting event is not coming to Pickering but does start in York on the 6th. However we are still right behind the event and delighted with Welcome to Yorkshire for having the imagination and determination to bring it here. There are many and various support events and activities before and during the weekend and plenty of ways to get involved/engaged-see www.yorkshire.com for details and links.
So our Holiday Cottage at 19 is just about ready for use-first guests just after Easter.
The website is being built and pictures are starting to appear on Twitter and Facebook .
We are looking forward to this new venture and hope it will give a new option to existing B and B guests
