Change is in the air

We have moved a few things around for this year hopefully to make every visit to 17 even more enjoyable.

The “Idling Room” has been created at the front of the house to give a much larger multi purpose space for guests.

Through the course of the Spring the rooms in the wing will become a two room suite-dates will be advised as time goes by.

19 Burgate

Our holiday cottage 19 Burgate has just been awarded a 4 Star Gold rating and we are very very happy. 19 provides a different option for guests who want to be more independent but at 17 quality. We have already had returning guests and are also finding 17 regulars giving it a go and extending stays. We are doing short 3 and 4 day breaks at all times so guests are not tied to having to have a full week-this is proving very popular . See www.19burgate.co.uk or give us a ring

The season is starting

Valentines Weekend is always the start of the season here at 17  and this year is no different. Have some Returners in the mix which is always good.We have openned up more availability during February and March due to changes in our plans so do see if you can get a seasonal midweek madness break in before Easter.

Updating and improving

The next phase of the 17 story is beginning as we plan for the future. We are finally converting the wing into a 2 room suite to meet the growing demand for our super dooper big spaces. This will makes a 4 bedroom property easing the workload for us and allowing some changes on the ground floor. The dining room is getting a revamp and will become a multipurpose area for guests-both sitting and breakfast room. There will also be changes in what we do and offer  all aimed at improving and complimenting the experience of a visit to 17. Of course we will be listening to you but feel these developments will enable us to offer an even better service. We will be having more time off through the year ensuring we are on top form during the times we are open. It is fair to say we are very excited now we have made the decision.

Tour de Yorkshire

Yeah!! The new top level cycling race the Tour de Yorkshire is coming to Pickering and Ryedale on May 1st and 2nd 2015. On Friday 1st some of the world’s best riders will sweep along the A170 with sprint points avaiaable in the town, The stage starts in Bridlington and goes through Dalby Forest before hitting Pickering then on through the North York Moors to Whitby with a finish in Scarborough. On the 2nd the race will start in Selby run across the Wolds to Beverly then sweep back into Ryedale through Norton and out on the south side of the A64 to a finish in York. We do have some availability but don’t think it will last long. We and many others have lobbied long anf hard for this and are delighted to be able to welcome this fantastic event which builds on the success of Le Grand Depart of le TourdeFrance last year.

Great feedback

We continue to get great feedback in our guestbook and on review sites-Trip Advisor, Booking.com and Laterooms. Good to see that returners believe we are maintaining standards 10 years on

Bit of an update

The Lost Pink Sheep campaign is now over and seems to have generated some good publicity for the area -including a piece on BBC Countryfile. We saw many people photograph Purl in our window but only one young man realised that we might also be the place with the knitted egg cosy sheep (Mint and Sauce) and came for a picture holding them. The winner of our prize has been in touch and will be coming to stay next Spring. Well done all at North York sMoors National Parks.

It has been a busy summer and we have had lots of returners which is always good to see. this included our regular visitors from Japan, Canada, and Australia.

19 Burgate has takem off and we have had several repeat visits already-would suggest you get in early for next year as key dates are going fast.

Pat and I are still contemplating a different future but really do love the house and running it as a B and B-could be we just have more time off especially during the winter months.

I am running the Yorkshire marathon again on 12th October raising funds for MacMillan Cancer support-there is a Just Giving page on FB if you want to support.
