We enjoyed a short but wonderful stay at this beautifully presented guest house, receiving the warmest of welcomes from our hosts. The accommodation was very comfortable and clean, and we enjoyed delicious tea and cake in the pretty garden. Breakfast again was superb. Loved it so much in fact that we’ve booked to return already!

Nothing is too much trouble for these exceptionally friendly hosts. Very tasteful decor and a beautiful garden where we were served tea and cake on arrival.
The breakfast was excellent with fresh produce beautifully cooked and a nice variety of cereals, fresh fruit etc.

A lovely two night stay starting with a very warm welcome from Ashley and lovely tea and cake served by Alan in the delightful cottage garden. The whole house is in pristine condition following sympathetic updating. A well cooked breakfast with a varied choice of organic ingredients. The fresh milk fridge and top up tea and coffee supplies were an added bonus. Excellent. We'll see you again.

A Touch of Class

Just returned from 3 night stay at 17 Burgate. From start to finish, a wonderful holiday. The hosts are fabulous and genuine. We received a warm welcome with tea and cakes. The property is beautiful and immaculately decorated. Breakfast is wonderful and perfectly cooked. We certainly hope to return when we next visit this area.

Fantastic bed and breakfast establishment. beautifully decorated, clean comfortable and the owners are so friendly. A great place to stay at Pickering, near the centre of town with parking. Short walk to the castle. Lots of local restaurants and pubs.

We really enjoyed our early March weekend stay at No 17. Our room was warm, comfortable and very well appointed. Breakfast was tasty and cooked to order. We were made to feel very welcome by Ashley (tea & cake on arrival was a nice touch). All amenities in Pickering are within easy walking distance and this is a good base for visiting North York Moors & Coast. Will definitely visit again!

Outstanding hosts and accommodation

This was a return visit for us and Ashley and Alan gave us such a warm welcome once again. The attention to detail in our room was faultless and the breakfast was delicious.
They have opened a lounge with bar since our last visit which, for friends, is a very sociable and relaxing space with a warm atmosphere. 17 Burgate is the best accommodation anyone could wish for and situated in a beautiful part of the country. Superb.

Highly recommend this small, friendly, comfortable hotel.

Everything about the hotel was spot on, room was nice size, nice view, nicely decorated. Ashley was the perfect host, nothing was too much trouble and he gave us lots of good advice about restaurants and even the short-cut to the station. Will be going back again!

5 nights not enough

Delightful and enthusiastic hosts. Excellent breakfasts, beautifully presented. Big room, on site parking, real milk for use the in room. Pickering has plenty of interesting shops and restaurants and is well placed for visiting the Yorkshire coast and York Moors.

Fabulous

What a jewel in the crown number 17 is. Al and Ashley couldn't make you feel more welcome if they tried. The   attention to detail and the cleanliness is first class. Having purchased the property recently they are currently restoring this beautiful former Georgian Home into a boutique style residence.Our bedrooms and ensuite were huge and equipped with upmarket toiletries, fluffy towels and bathrobes. Not to mention the smaller touches of a jar of boiled sweets, handmade chocolates and there was prosecco brought up to our room after a hard long day.AL has worked as a top class chef for the likes of Royalty and the Creme d la Creme hence your breakfast looks like something from the Ritz

A gem of a place - book direct to save and have more breakfast options

What a gem of a place! Ashley is a perfect host - friendly, helpful, interested but not overbearing, and nothing was too much trouble. Breakfast was a delight, the bed was so comfortable we could have slept for ever and the rooms are furnished tastefully, comfortable and with everything you need. Booking direct saves money and has a greater choice for breakfasts (though they are ample!). We will be back!

Lovely B&B, friendly hosts, wonderful scenery, planning next trip.

Our stay was so relaxing and the premises could not have been any cleaner. Every morning we could not wait for the full English breakfast which was cooked to perfection. The hosts made you feel so welcoming on arriving and all the way through you stay. There was nothing that we could say could be improved on.

Superb Location for Pickering and NYMR Centre

We stayed here from a Sat - Monday. We came to Pickering for the NYMR and picked this hotel for it's location. What a choice, absolutely 1st class, could not fault anything. Ashley and Alan were great host's, tea and cake in the great secluded garden on our arrival was great. We park our car in their own private car park and didn't need till we went home. This place is ideal for Pickering and the railway, all in a few minutes walk. Would recommend No 17 to all my friends and hope to return again.

Honeymoon

From the moment we arrived we were made to feel very welcome by new owners Ashley and Alan. The hospitality was excellent,  the guest house was clean and tidy. The full English breakfast was delicious and drinks were well presented. Not being from the local area meant the additional information offered allowed us to access the steam train and local restaurants. Nothing was too much trouble. We would like to take this opportunity to thank the owners for their hospitality and the attention to detail given, as it was phenomenal.

We've never had such a warm & friendly welcome anywhere we've stayed than we received from the owner Ashley, was 2nd to none. Very welcoming & nothing was too much bother. Property was beautiful & immaculate with lovely touches like fresh flowers, smell was gorgeous. We stayed in bedroom 11, couldn't fault it. Spotless, spacious & beautiful views over the garden. Ideally situated for exploring Pickering & surrounding area. Breakfast was delicious. Would definitely stay again & would recommend this property to anyone.

Amazing Hotel Amazing Owners

We stayed at 17 Burgate for the weekend for my husbands birthday from the moment we were welcomed into the hotel by Al it was a fantastic weekend Ashley and Al made our stay perfect from the afternoon tea on arrival to their hospitality for the whole weekend, the breakfasts were amazing the hotel is so clean and beautifully decorated and the bar room with the wood burner is so relaxing after a day of sightseeing. Fabulous with a capital ‘F’

You know you are in for a fabulous stay, when you are met by a man (who turned out to be Alan) with a bottle of Cif in his hand and a wonderfully smiley face. We had arrived early but asked if we could park up and explore Pickering - answer absolutely no problem whatsoever.When we returned, Ashley showed us up to our room and explained everything to us (only ever had that when staying in some fabulous 5* Hotels around the World...!) A few minutes later, Alan brought lovely homemade cakes and tea up to our room, a really lovely welcome - thank you!We had booked a 3 night stay for our Wedding Anniversary and had booked to go to the nearby Willowgate Bistro upon Ashley's recommendation, a must do on anyone's list if they are considering a stay in Pickering! Back to 17 Burgate, Ashley kindly opened up their new (very comprehensively stocked) bar to allow hubby and I to have a pre Dinner aperitif - all beautifully presented. We were almost late to Dinner what with all of the banter that was enjoyed.  We even met Pilot their most adorable little Manchester Terrier.  I can honestly say, the bed was the best I have ever slept in, the shower was perfect as were the toiletries provided, although I had taken our own. Everything about Room 12 was A*** (triple rated if there is such a thing!) Fabulous sitting area, complete with a little fridge a good TV and DVD player and all the usual extras ie kettle, teas coffees biscuits, a hair dryer, leaflets on things to do in the area etc.  Breakfast was simply divine, we both had Scrambled eggs and Smoked Salmon but the choice offered so much more - compliments to the Chef (Alan) we only needed a snack in the day after the feast. I could wax lyrical about this find and the owners friendship and kindness after we sadly had to cut our stay short. If you are considering staying here, then think no more, just pick up the phone and book it. You will not be disappointed and if you are, then I don't think you would be happy anywhere!!!Thank you both for a memorable stay in a beautiful little Town.

Great place and location for North York Moors and NYMR

We chose this B and B because it it very close to the NYMR station and provided secure off street parking. In the event, 17 Burgate exceeded all expectations! The Georgian house has been very sympathetically upgraded, with the best posssible facilites while maintaining the character. The rooms were palatial, compared to most b and bs. Very welcoming hosts, a great breakfast and a garden which is itself is a delight! Some good pubs in walking distance, which is important for heritage railway buffs!

Visit to the steam railway brought us here for 2 nights..Park your car forget it,you can enjoy wondering around Pickering listening to the toots of the steam locomotives.Ash and Alan interesting hosts who cannot do enough to make everyone feel at ease.Breakfast lots of choice, mine, yogurt and fresh fruit salad topped with granola,delicious.Local shops Supply Burgate.Accomodation excellent spacious rooms, romantic  Cosy and comfortable.Highly recommend.

Excellent Bed and Breakfast!

We arrived on 7/6 as the new owners Alan and Ashley had just about waved goodbye to their removal vehicle. Under the circumstances our visit could have been like Fawlty Towers but you would have thought they had been there years. They were so welcoming with tea and cakes in the garden. The room was elegant with all the facilities we needed. Breakfast was tailored to our needs and all in all we had a very positive experience If we visit the area again we would certainly stay at 17 Burgate

Lovely accommodation

This was our first time staying in Pickering, and after a root around the internet, decided on 17 Burgate. We were not disappointed at all. We were greeted by the lovely Ashley, who could not have done any more to make us feel welcome. Our room was beautiful and spacious, and had everything we needed. We were given to keys to our room plus the main doors to the house so we could come and go as we pleased. Ashley brought us some lovely tea and cake on arrival to our room, a really lovely touch. Cannot fault our stay at all. The only slight issue was the fridge in our room was a bit loud- my husband slept right through it, I struggled a little at first but won eventually. This was such a minor issue I didn’t even want to mention it, especially with how lovely our hosts were! If you are a light sleeper, just bring earplugs because it’s really not worth missing this lovely property over, and it means you give decent fresh milk for your morning beverage as opposed to plastic rubbish!! Definitely worth counting sheep for. Thanks for a lovely stay.

A home from home

This is an amazing B&B - beautiful house and garden, lovely big rooms that are spotless. What makes a stay here truly special is they way that Ashley and Allan look after you. Nothing is too much trouble, and the food is just gorgeous. Thank you for making our anniversary weekend memorable.Can’t wait to stay here again in future.

A real gem

Excellent B&B with superb accommodation. We stayed in Room 12 which was immaculate and the new owners did everything possible to enhance our stay including most welcome tea and cake served in the lovely garden upon our arrival. The only downside was we could only stay one night BUT we will return for longer next time

Brilliant

Treated my parents for their 60th wedding anniversary. Having read the reviews, I booked it for a 4 day midweek break. Within 5 mins of booking Ashley (the owner) had phoned me up and was discussing how we could treat my parents. What brilliant service. My parents have just got home and can not praise the staff, the facilities, breakfast and location enough. Nothing was too much trouble. They will certainly be returning.

Superb high quality B&B

We chose 17 Burgate because we were attending a wedding at the station, and this is just a short walk up the hill, and has off-street parking. Although our arrival was well before check-in time, it was no problem to park there and check in later. The staff (owners?) were extremely pleasant and friendly and we really felt welcome.The room was excellent,  superbly appointed with many nice little touches, those little extras that set it a level above the ordinary. Comfortable bed with good-quality bedding, fresh milk available for making drinks, filtered water, iPhone dock, bath robes... Even near the centre of town, it was quieter than our suburban home!The whole building is maintained to a high standard, an unmistakable feeling of quality. There is a wide choice on the breakfast menu, and the freshly prepared food is really good. Good coffee too, served in a cafetierre. All with the same friendly, efficient but unhurried service.This is a top quality B&B, well worth a visit - we will be back.

Splendid B&B

My wife and I were delighted to have chosen 17 Burgate for our three day visit to Pickering. I can do no better than echo all the complimentary comments of previous reviewers, welcoming owners, tea and cake in the garden, very comfortable room 12 with separate sitting area, a delightfully decorated house with quality fittings and many tasteful objects, quiet overnight although only a short walk into the hustle and bustle of town etc etc etcWe wish Ashley and Alan every success in the future.

Wow! What an amazing place! Our hosts, Ashley and Alan made our trip an absolute pleasure.They welcomed us with tea and cake. What a lovely touch! The room was immaculate with every attention to detail. The house is beautiful. Everything was explained to us on arrival with Ashley accompanying us to our room.Breakfast was excellent too. The whole place is so calm and relaxing.We would thoroughly recommend staying here if you are visiting Pickering. This is the best hotel / guest house that we have ever stayed in. First Class

Had a wonderful break at an outstanding B&B.  Ashley and Alan gave a warm welcome when we arrived, explaining the facilities of our lovely, spacious room.  When we had settled in we were treated to tea and cake in the garden. The fresh water and milk available to make a drink was a nice touch.They were brilliant hosts providing a nourishing breakfast each morning and I know we'll stay there again as my husband is a big fan of NYMR which is only a hop step and a jump away

Lovely warm welcome

My wife and I have just had a lovely weekend break and stayed in this delightful townhouse in the heart of Pickering, with a warm welcome from Ashley the owner we both felt very relaxed from the start, our room was very spacious and clean, the food was fantastic and having tea and cake sat in the gardens made the stay even more relaxing. My wife and I will definitely be staying in this wonderful townhouse again.  Thank you to both Ashley and Alan for making this weekend so special.

Our weeks stay at 17 Burgate Bed and Breakfast  was truly a wonderful experience. Our deluxe room was very well furnished, spacious and very clean, we couldn’t wait for breakfast each morning as what was offer was exceptional. The hosts Ashley and Alan’s hospitality was the best we have ever come across by far, so much so we now regard them as friends. We certainly will be returning to stay in the near future. This bed and breakfast is a must for those who appreciate top class accommodation.

Grand B & B with a 5 star rating

We have stayed a this B and B each year for last 8 years and value the quality of service and hospitality which comes at a very reasonable cost. The rooms are large and access to the private secluded garden a real delight.Pickering is a great little Yorkshire town and access to the moors and coast very convenient

Excellent, comfortable accommodation. Good value for money.

The new owners of 17 Burgate are delightful as is the property itself. My husband and I were in Room 15 which was very comfortable and clean with a side-ways view on to the garden and seating areas. Ashley was a natural host - attentive without being over-bearing or intrusive, always interested in where we had been and what we had been doing during our three night stay. and great fun to talk to. Allan's breakfasts were promptly and attractively delivered and delicious (and I am not a great breakfast fan!). Very happy to have endless pots of tea coming my way to start the day. The location is superb and within 100 metres of Willowgate Bistro (wonderful food, but book at the weekend) and other eateries. Quite a few individual shops nearby too. We were very pleased with our stay at 17 Burgate and would confidently recommend it. Ashley and Allan deserve success for their new venture and we wish them well.

Wonderful stay

Just returned from a wonderful stay at 17 Burgate in Pickering. Have stayed here several times as it is such a great location for all the activities to do in the area. This was our first stay with the new owners Ashley and Alan. They were so friendly and nothing was too much trouble. The room was spotless and peaceful with a very comfortable bed. Great choice of food at breakfast and Ashley and Alan were very accommodating for any special requests. We will definitely return. Beautiful townhouse

We stayed two nights in this elegant and comfortable townhouse in the heart of Pickering. Lovely area of the town, peaceful but a short stroll to restaurants and the North York Moors Railway station. Our hosts were very hospitable and welcoming and the bedroom spacious, quiet and comfortable. At the rear of the house were attractive gardens and a perfectly adequate and easily accessible small car park.

Exceptional stay, room with a view

As frequent visitors to Pickering we have never had a bad stay, however this b&b really stands out. We received a warm welcome and friendly service from start to finish, you really get the feeling that nothing would be too much trouble. The room was lovely overlooking the garden and although we stayed 1 night to coincide with they Gin train at NYMR we could have stayed all weekend and enjoyed the house and garden, it really did have that sort of feel. We'll definitely revisit, probably for a longer stay next time. Exceptional in every way.

Well located, comfortable, wonderful hosts

Our hosts couldn't have been more helpful and made our stay as relaxing and welcoming as possible. The suite we stayed in was very nice with a huge comfy bed. The hotel itself is a lovely venue with a peaceful garden and off street parking, which was very handy. Very well situated for all Pickering has to offer but nicely tucked away from the high street so evenings/nights were very quiet. The cooked breakfast was fantastic, probably the best I've had. We will definitely be returning in the future. I would recommend you book direct with the owners instead of a website as they offer a real personal touch. Only problem we had was that we didn't stay longer!

Very Pleasant

Very pleasant and comfortable stay in this elegant and surprisingly accessible town house in the heart of Pickering. Beautiful spacious room , very welcoming hosts, attractive gardens and more than adequate car parking area.

Absolutely superb

The best place we have ever stayed in. A warm friendly welcome, impeccable service and immaculate rooms in a beautiful old house. The choice and quality of the breakfasts was superb. Ideal position to explore Pickering and the surrounding area.

Will not Disappoint

We arrived at 2.30pm to find  a notice on the back door saying booking in began at 4pm so we made ourselves comfortable in the garden on a lovely sunny afternoon.  Two gentlemen came in & said hello so I asked where was Will?  They introduced themselves as the new owners & I had asked if they were care-taking!! ( So sorry).We quickly overcame that hurdle & were greeted warmly with a most welcome tea tray with delicious cake which we enjoyed in the pleasant garden.  Ashley & Alan are very warm & friendly people who just cannot do enough for you including lifting cases up & down the stairs.  Our room was welcoming & very comfortable, extremely spacious with a kettle & drinks tray, a settee to relax & watch TV, a large extremely comfortable bed & generous bathroom with lovely white towels & gowns provided.  We were in Pickering for the Jazz Festival again so this was our fifth visit to No. 17.  Breakfast was pleasantly served & very tasty with super fresh fruit & cereals plus delicious cooked to order food of your choice.  We really enjoyed a most relaxing break as No. 17 is so very peaceful with attentive & charming hosts.  We very much hope to return next year for another wonderful rest in a quality spotless B & B.  The location just a couple of minutes from town centre is good & free parking at the rear of the premises is most useful.

Warm welcome

Stylish B & B near to the centre of Pickering. A very warm welcome accompanied by tea and cake in the peaceful garden. The bedroom was relatively large and tastefully decorated with a large ensuite  bathroom. Ashley and Alan were welcoming and attentive without being intrusive.

It felt as if we were house guests within a family. Home from Home!
Warm welcome from the owners. Both very helpful. Our room was big and comfortable and spotlessly clean. We wish we could  stayed longer than our four nights. We would recommend this lovely guest to anyone wishing to stay in Pickering.

Superb place to stay in Pickering. Warm welcome, nothing was too much trouble and everywhere was spotlessly clean. The breakfast was delicious and well presented, fresh fruit salad was perfect.  Lovely garden to have afternoon tea. The location was ideal for anyone interested in the Yorkshire Moors Railway which is a nice stroll away

AMAZING GUEST HOUSE

Just back from 17 Burgate,it really is a special B and B , from first entering the delightful garden you just know it's going to be a wonderful stay.Yes the welcome, the room,the breakfast, the position are all perfect, but the lovely cosy comfortable feeling is what makes 17 Burgate so special and makes it stand out from other B and Bs.Alan and Ashley are perfect hosts, and work so hard to ensure your stay meets your expectations?I would highly recommend 17 Burgate, 5 stars on all counts,  and we will certainly be returning.Thank you both for our wonderful stay, just what the doctor ordered
